Well, I'm closing out the cleanse this weekend. It's been interesting, and the "feeling different" part has finally started happening. The cravings have started to subside, and even though I'm looking forward to my first beer and the occasional piece of chocolate my plan is to incorporate many of the "clean" foods into my normal diet. So, my plan is this: I've always planned meals in advance. Every couple weeks or so I'll sit down with mine and Matt's work/life schedules, determine which nights we would both be home for dinner, and then continue to do the shakes in the mornings and light lunches. On nights when we don't eat dinner together I'll probably keep doing shakes or soups. I'm just happy that things have reset and that I'm less anxious to get back to the "junk" food as I was a few weeks ago.
It wasn't until this week that I noticed some bigger changes. Alex, my co-worker, mentioned that I'd feel "lighter," but I found myself walking taller and feeling a bit thinner. Some of my pants fit better, and there's a small pooch I've had between my rib cages (it's a genetic thing in my family) and that's started to get smaller and flatter - cool! I also found that I haven't been craving meat as much as I used to. I do VERY MUCH want a cheeseburger... but other than that I'm not craving chicken or turkey or any other. As far as the numbers go, I weighed myself just before Christmas and again today, and the final tally is about 6 lbs lost.
So now back to a bit of normalcy. I'm having a cup of Kenyan coffee in the morning (one cup only!) and may let myself indulge in a beer tomorrow night... it is Pandora's Bock season :) But I'll be going grocery shopping next weekend and will be stocking up on more frozen fruits and fresh greens. I know it is unreasonable to think that the weight won't come back, but it really hasn't been about the weight for me. It was about getting out of the bad habits and back into the good habits. Since I had to pre-cook lunches for this cleanse, that's another habit I'm looking forward to continuing... no more Lean Cuisines for me!
I'm really glad I did this cleanse. I got a lot of negative reactions for it (friends saying "why the hell are you doing that?!" and "that sounds horrible!" and "all that food looks so gross!") but I really feel like it was a good, once-a-year plan to try. I had tea with a girlfriend of mine this morning and she told me about the Dr. Oz 3-Day Juice Cleanse, which could be a good one to do every month or so. I'm excited to be "reset," and I think that it'll be very good moving forward.
But now we move on to more exciting news... house hunting! :) We get to start looking in the next couple weeks or so. We aren't in a rush to move, but we are excited to start looking for sure!
