Things this past week have been pretty uneventful. We were able, thanks to Matt's dad, to buy some ground beef and chicken; thanks to the grocery store across the street closing and relocating we got $75 worth of random foodstuffs for about $30, which helped as well. I made a big batch of chili the other night and we have had a bit more luck getting on our feet the last week.
The big news was our two separate and different doctor's visits today. I went to my physician for my annual exam and to talk about my back. I was a bit surprised when she recommended physical therapy rather than a chiropractor, but I guess as long as it's all covered by insurance it doesn't really matter. The PT will be much more time-consuming but I just want to feel better. My first appointment is tentatively scheduled for December 2, but the PT receptionist assured me there would be cancellations so hopefully I'll be in sooner. At least I have a work schedule that'll allow me to go three-four times a week as recommended.
Matt and I also went to the optometrist today for his eye exam and to order him a new pair of glasses. They dilated his eyes, which I always think is funny, so we've been sitting at home in the dark for the last couple hours. He got some fancy new Ted Baker frames which look pretty geek-sheik.
Between our two appointments we visited downtown Littleton and just walked around a bit... I love it downtown there because it reminds me of mine and Matt's hometowns without actually being in a small town. We saw an apartment for rent while we were there, so maybe we'll have a place to move to... but we'll see. Right now the actual expense of moving is far too high for us, so we may be stuck here for another six months or so. It's not like our place is awful, we just have awful neighbors and appliances that don't work and a landlord that won't respond to our emails.
Work has been your typical retail work... I was scheduled to work at Old Navy for 6 hours on Monday and 8 on Tuesday, but ended up being cut on Monday and only worked 2 hours on Tuesday. I'm going to call them tomorrow after my shift at B&BW and see if I can go work for a few hours. I start my early mornings there next week which will, hopefully, be a bit more dependable. I work tonight (I have to leave here in about an hour) which I'm a little bummed about because there is an Avs game on tonight :( I hate working late/closing shifts because I feel like I spend the entire day waiting to go to work. I'd much rather get up at the ass-crack of dawn and work for awhile then go home for the rest of the day... I guess that's why I liked being a barista.
I'm also, hopefully, going to work at the coffee kiosk next week for two days at 5 1/2 hours each day, so that will be some cash money in my pocket. I just hope it's not like last time when I was scheduled to work for three days and the kiosk was canceled after its first day.
In an attempt to save some money Matt and I tried baking our own bread yesterday and it was definitely an epic fail. We took a basic bread recipe and a "how to adjust recipes for high altitude" article and tried to combine them and it just didn't work. I think we'll try again tomorrow, but it'd be so nice to have a good, easy, delicious bread recipe. We went to Caribou with Angela last night for hot chocolates and it was nice to see a few old friends. I told Amy, a girl I'd worked with earlier this year, that I'd been laid off and she asked if I wanted to go back to work at the 'Bou. "I would," I said, "but you guys are adding breakfast sandwiches and I just can't do that!" To an extent that's true. I always vowed that if 'Bou added sandwiches they'd finally transition into being a Starbucks and the idea of that always pissed me off. But I do miss making drinks and talking to people about coffee. But for now the retail world will work.
And speaking of, I should probably change into my blacks for B&BW. I will say that I love the fact I can wear pretty much whatever I want at Old Navy... the all-black preppy thing doesn't work so well for me. I'm not really a preppy pretty girl... I always feel really awkward telling someone that this fragrance is "so perfect for you" or trying to sell a heavy-duty lotion. But I just try to be an actress and do what I can to be a good worker. If I have a choice of staying with one or the other after the holidays I'll probably stay at Old Navy, but I guess we'll have to wait and see what happens in a couple months.
