I went to my hair appointment on Saturday and was explaining all our recent troubles to my stylist. When I said "Oh, and on top of everything else, Matt's car broke down!" she immediately grabbed her laptop and a slip of paper. She handed me the paper with a man's name and two phone numbers written on it, and an explanation that it was her mechanic. She told me that she only brings her Subarus to him, that he uses all Subaru parts and is really reasonably priced. Considering the last fuel pump we had to replace on the Beetle was over $900 I was hopeful that'd it be a bit cheaper. So we had the Subie towed (which was covered by our insurance, thank goodness!) to their shop, and I called this morning to follow-up. Their gal told me that yes, they suspected the fuel pump as well, and that they'd found a part and could install it... for $235. Are you freaking kidding me?! If this guy does good work I'll stop going to our regular mechanic. That price seems too good to be true, but with the recommendation from my stylist I'm hopeful it'll be a great new find.
The other positive came yesterday while I was out shopping with Angela. I got a call from Bath & Body Works regarding the job I'd applied for, and they offered me a job. I start training on Sunday, and while I'm excited to return to work (even if it is a seasonal retail job) I'm worried there won't be enough hours to be worthwhile, at least not at the beginning. I'll do four days of work at the coffee kiosk starting tomorrow, but if that isn't fairly steady I'll still need to find another part-time job. I applied at The Container Store and Kohls, either of which would be great. I think I'd prefer The Container Store (it seems like a bit less to worry about than Kohls) but I'll take either at this point.
I'm trying to get everything else squared away: I've got to get a meeting with financial aid at the college and work on my essays for my application. I have over a month before everything is due, but I'd like to get going on it since I've got the time right now.
We are heading to Minnesota in a couple weeks for my friend Bean's wedding, which I'm excited about. I haven't been home since Christmas and it'll be nice to get back to my house and see my friends again. I'm sad because the trip is the same weekend as Matt's birthday, and I don't know what to do for Matt. I don't really have the means to get him a present, which makes me feel awful. We're road-tripping this time with three dogs and three/four people, which will be interesting, but also a lot of fun, I hope!
I'm a little bummed because I haven't been able to walk the dogs the last two days, and with the coffee kiosk job they won't get walked at all this week unless we go later in the evening (it's still in the upper 80s here). Yesterday I was stuck at the apartment till almost noon waiting for the tow for the Subaru, and today I'm waiting for the $@^&! Comcast technician to come "fix" our cable box. We had to get a new cable box because our old one used to have problems, and now the new one isn't really working either. We've been through so much shit with Comcast over the last three years that every time I have to deal with them I just get pissed off and want to switch to Direct TV... but I suppose every company has issues and I'd probably be just as annoyed with someone else. I just get so frustrated when they tell me to reset or unplug or "is your TV turned on?" I'm not an idiot, thanks...
So I guess I'll take some time to straighten up my living room and kitchen, and maybe get a load of laundry in this afternoon. The next five days will be pretty busy and hopefully the extra money will help us as we get into the scariest finanicial part of this whole situation.
